Bérèche's Le Cran is an utterly singular and compelling Champagne.
In 2012, Le Cran really kicks into high gear.
Bérèche is one of our favorite producers in all of Champagne.
The wines show a breathtaking depth of complexity with an ultra-clear precision and outrageous clarity. They are intense and vinous.
The Le Cran represents the style taken to the extreme. Above all else, it's animated by a blazing chalky minerality.
I'm very happy to offer Bérèche's 2012 Le Cran in both bottles and rare magnums at the lowest price around, $99.95 and $219.95 respectively.
Le Cran is sourced from two old vine vineyards and consists of equal parts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Both vineyards are situated in very chalky mid-slope sections.
The combination of the very chalky soils, vinification in barrels, and aging on corks produces a profoundly textural, kaleidoscopic, and kinetic Champagne.
The 2012 Le Cran takes the wine's typical intensity to a whole new level. In Champagne, the 2012 vintage produced some seriously impressive wines. The best examples have a combination of ripeness, concentration, and verve that we haven't seen since 1996.
In 2012, Le Cran is powerfully mineral with length and an expansive complexity that's remarkable. Expect a firm, jagged mineral core with bright citrus and floral notes along with dried fruits. The wine is a serious tour de force.
Raphaël Bérèche's Champagnes are exactingly crafted. The balance, precision, and overall architecture of the 2012 Le Cran is a testimony to just how impressive the work here is. It's a Champagne of extreme power, minerality, and harmony. And one that shouldn't be missed.
