Burgundy Elite:
2017 Bachelet Charmes-Chambertin

Posted by Ian McFadden

"This is yet another magnificent masterclass in Charmes-Chambertin courtesy of Bachelet and his century-old vines."

Bachelet's Charmes is one of Burgundy's masterpieces. When this wine is in its zone, it has few peers.

It is among the rarest treasures of Burgundy. Allocations, even to major merchants in major cities, often come down to a single bottle. Bachelet's plot is a mere 0.44ha of 100-year-old vines. Bachelet makes somewhere around 180 cases.

Every vintage, I go on a rampage chasing down every bottle that I can get my hands on. I can't even begin to describe the deep impression that old bottles have left on me.

The fact that we haven't been able to offer Bachelet's Charmes in five years shows how difficult it is to land this wine in quantity.

The 2017 Bachelet Charmes is a stunning vintage of this larger-than-life wine. It has the power, mysterious depth of complexity and ultra-clear, super-elegant balance that makes it one of Burgundy's greats.

At the lowest price in the country, I seriously doubt that this will stick around for long. Bachelet's Charmes rarely sees the light of day. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
