Burgundy Without Artifice:
2014 Bertheau Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes

Posted by Ian McFadden

Last week, we offered Bertheau's 2014 Chambolle. That night, I was searching for additional bottles to fulfill all the orders that we received.

This made me very happy. Bertheau's are the Burgundies that I'm most fond of. They are archetypes of just how graceful and pure Burgundy can be.

Bertheau's 2014s are simply stunning. If you haven't checked out these wines previously, this is a great time.

Bertheau's Charmes is a bottle that I put a lot of effort into tracking down. For me, it's the perfect summary of Bertheau's style. The issue is that it comes from a 0.66ha parcel and can be maddening to track down.

The Charmes offers a perfect glimpse into what makes Bertheau so special. It delivers an incredible amount of finesse and beautiful refinement. Few wines capture the haunting beauty of Chambolle like Bertheau's does.

Bertheau's 2014s are gorgeous - crackling with energy and bursting with Chambolle's beguiling perfume. In classic fashion, the 2014s thrive on understatement and subtlety.

It's the fine calibration and harmony that allow Bertheau's wines to age so well. I've had heartbreaking bottles of Bertheau with 20 and 30 years of age. A '92 Charmes that we drank recently was stunning. It's always a pleasure to offer Bertheau, but the 2014 Charmes is something that shouldn't be missed.
