Burgundy's Greatest Value:
2017 Hudelot-Noellat Bourgogne Rouge

Posted by Ian McFadden

For Burgundy lovers seeking value, Hudelot-Noëllat’s Bourgogne Rouge is a godsend.

You simply won’t find another bottle in this price range that offers more complexity, finesse, and sheer deliciousness.

Many savvy Burgundy buyers have caught on—every time we offer Hudelot-Noellat’s Bourgogne Rouge, it seems to disappear in a matter of minutes. But, amazingly, the price remains shockingly low. I'm very happy to have landed another parcel, which is in stock and ready for immediate delivery.

Today, we’re happy to offer Hudelot-Noellat’s 2017 Bourgogne Rouge for $35.95 per bottle.

Hudelot-Noellat’s entire range of wines seem to punch above their weight, but this is most evident in the quality of their Bourgogne Rouge. The amount of depth and refinement that winemaker Charles Van Canneyt is able to coax from this humble appellation is a serious testament to his winemaking ability.

The 2017 is utterly charming. The vintage was a relatively easy one; Canneyt told Burghound that “the fruit was clean and ripe,” and the high quality of the grapes is evident in the wine. It’s bright and lifted with a beautiful bouquet of aromas and silken texture. You’ll find fresh red berries, flowers and spice, and a striking mineral cut.

Hudelot-Noellat’s Bourgogne Rouge is one of the wines we drink most often. Every vintage we stock up, and we highly recommend you do as well. This is an everyday Burgundy you’ll want to have around in quantity. But be warned, every year this is one of our most popular offerings. Don’t wait.

Burghound: A super-fresh nose reflects notes of pretty red berries and a hint of spice. There is good cut and excellent punch to the utterly delicious flavors that exhibit only a trace of rusticity on the nicely complex and focused finale. As is often the case, this is a very good example of the genre and would make a fine choice for an all-around house red.
