Chambolle is one of the most beautiful expressions of red Burgundy.
For many years, Drouhin's 1er Cru has served as an archetypal Chambolle for me. It's a wine that's simply beguiling.
Sure, you can find sexier bottlings from Chambolle- Musigny, Bonnes Mares, Amoureuses, etc. But each time I taste through Drouhin, the 1er Cru bottling is incredibly memorable. Over the years, it's become clear that I'm not alone. Our offers are always met with a big response.
Catch a Drouhin Chambolle 1er Cru in prime form and you'll be hard pressed to match the pedigree and class it delivers for the price.
The Chambolle 1er Cru bottling combines five small 1er Cru parcels in Chambolle, all owned and biodynamically farmed by Drouhin, with vine age averaging 30 years. The plots are simply too small to bottle individually. There seems to be some wisdom at work here, because the wine has an impressive sense of completeness along with great tension and balance.
The 2016 Chambolle 1er Cru bottling explodes with perfume and flowers, all delivered with intensity, pitch perfect precision and a lacy texture. For all of its drive and concentration, there's also a lovely grace and soaring lift to the wine.
The difficult part is that the yields in Chambolle were incredibly low in 2016. If interested, I'd advise you to jump on this. I don't expect our parcel to stick around for long.
