Collin Blanc de Noirs Les Maillons Extra-Brut (2013 base)

Posted by Joe Salamone

Every time that we offer Ulysse Collin's Maillons, it sells out in a flash.

After a string of incredibly successful vintages, availability has gotten very ugly. We very much wanted to offer Ulysse Collin's 2013 Maillon, but the only way that made sense was to sneak the offer in on a Saturday.

Watching things start to click at Ulysse Collin has been very exciting. Since his debut in 2004, Olivier Collin has established the domaine as one of the most individual and compelling in all of Champagne. They are unmistakeable, extreme wines. Over the last few vintages, the wines have gained much more poise and refinement. It's become impossible not to take notice of them.

All indications point to the 2013s as being a high point for the domaine. We're getting this offer out early because for fans of Collin, the 2013s shouldn't be missed and we expect them to disappear from the market quickly.

Les Maillons is the most powerful wine in Collin’s lineup, sourced from 45 year old Pinot vines on chalk and heavy clay soil. The 2013 will benefit from the vitnage's completeness - it has lovely length, energy and clarity. Expect breadth and grip matched by gorgeous brightness and crackling acidity.

We encourage you to check out Olivier Collin's fascinating I'll Drink to That interview to get a broader perspective on the domaine from Olivier Collin himself.

As we said at the beginning, word is definitely out on Ulysse Collin. Our parcel of 2013 Maillons is much smaller than in previous vintages. This is something to jump on.
