Côte-Rôtie In Full Glory:
2014 Levet Côte-Rôtie La Chavaroche

Posted by Joe Salamone

When it comes to unyieldingly honest and unapologetically traditional Côte-Rôtie, Levet's wines are without peer.

They are wildly untamed, beautifully compelling and utterly authentic expressions of Syrah.

Also, Levet's wines represent amazing value. As pricing on many traditional Northern Rhône producers has gone vertical, pricing on Levet has barely budged.

It's easy to see why Levet has become a pillar of our Northern Rhône Program.

The 2014 vintage shows Levet in full glory. The wine is deep, dense and savory, while remaining beautifully expressive, lifted and bright. In 2014, the wine offers soaring aromatics and is animated by incredible freshness, energy and snap. The finesse and texture on display are seriously gorgeous.

Chavaroche is a brutally rocky and steeply-terraced southwest facing vineyard. Levet is meticulous in the vineyard, but the grapes simply do their thing in the cellar – vinification is thoughtful, but there’s no artifice at work.

Neal Rosenthal, Levet’s importer, isn’t shy about singling Chavaroche out: “There is no more consistently great wine in our portfolio than Levet’s La Chavaroche…If you want the truest of Côte-Rôties…if you admire both the intellectual and the savage, then this is a must-buy wine.”

With age, Levet's wines become even more nuanced, captivating and refined. We created special pack pricing today because the 2014 is a vintage that we expect to evolve beautifully. As we've mentioned before, these are wines that tend to disappear quickly. Don’t miss.

2014 Levet Côte-Rôtie La Chavaroche

Josh Raynolds, Vinous: "Bright purple. Deep-pitched, smoke- and mineral-accented black and blue fruit, olive and floral pastille aromas are complemented by a strong suggestion of peppery spices. Fleshy, concentrated and gently sweet, offering intense, spice-tinged black currant and boysenberry flavors that tighten up slowly with air. Densely packed yet lithe, finishing with serious thrust and fine-grained tannins that meld seamlessly with the potent dark fruit."
