Dutraive's North Star:
2018 Famille Dutraive Saint Amour Clos du Chapitre

Posted by Joe Salamone

Dutraive's wines are seductive in their clarity, soil-inflected depth and sheer joyful drinkability.

Dutraive's wines started to be imported in 2009. The wines were so compelling that they became an overnight sensation. At this point, Dutraive is firmly situated as one of the region's most sought after and beloved producers.

Over the past couple of years, it's been exciting to witness Dutraive begin working beyond the family's core holdings in Fleurie and Brouilly.

Saint Amour is the northernmost cru in Beaujolais. Famille Dutraive’s Clos du Chapitre is sourced from a single vineyard composed of rocky top soils over clay, high on a plateau on the Eastern edge of the appellation.

What Dutraive does with Saint Amour is utterly fascinating. It offers an incredible amount of enjoyment with its suave texture. There's great precision and vividness to the layered berry notes along with a sneaky building meatiness.

In 2016, Dutraive lost a crippling 90% of his crop. That same year he started the Famille Dutraive label with his three children. Wines under this label are made from purchased fruit coming only from growers that meet his high standards of organic viticulture. Vinification is done the same way as the domaine wines.

Dutraive's Saint Amour really underscores not only how irresistibly delicious their wines are, but also the sheer rigor of the winemaking. We created special 4-pack pricing to encourage you to go fairly deep on this. You'll be happy that you did.
