Clape's Cornas reveals something essential about the appellation. The wines are pillars of Cornas.
If Allemand is Cornas as suave, fine and bright, Clape shows the region's dark side, wonderfully bone-crushing and savory. Clape’s Cornas gets to the beating heart of the appellation’s intensely deep and smoky side. The wines are wildly complex and utterly compelling expressions of Cornas.
Few Cornas can rival the longevity of Clape. With time, the wine undergoes an amazing transformation, gaining even more depth and refinement.
Today, we're happy to offer two examples of perfectly stored, back-vintage Clape from 1998 and 2000.
The two vintages serve as bookends. The 1998 is a sternly structured and savory vintage and the 2000 is more extroverted, boasting gorgeous aromatics and an expansive complexity.
We're big fans of the 1998. It's a classic expression of Cornas that's animated by a dark minerality with smoke and floral notes. The 2000 has a more supple and very elegant personality. If the 1998 shows a more wild and rugged side of Clape, the 2000 shows power married to a classy polish.
I'm going to wrap this up. It probably goes without saying that quantities are very limited. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
