"Excellent"
2019 Bachelet Gevrey VV

Posted by Ian McFadden

Bachelet's Gevrey is famous for boxing well above its weight class.

When you catch Bachelet's Gevrey in a vintage like 2019, the wine can simply floor you. It has a class and complexity that village-level wines pretty much never have.

Along with Roumier's Chambolle and Mugneret-Gibourg's Vosne, Bachelet's Gevrey is one of the villages wines that collectors buy cases of and drink over decades.

The old vines really make their presence felt in the wine's density and gripping intensity. The vines average 60 to 70 years old, with the oldest dating back to 1932.

Bachelet's 2019 Gevrey has an incredible harmony, marrying ample pure and silky fruit with exhilarating drive. Burghound really captures some of the essential qualities of the wine when he writes: "The delicious and dense, even juicy, medium weight flavors possess fine underlying tension. "

The 2019 seems destined to join the top examples of the past decade. In any vintage, Bachelet's Gevrey has a huge fan club. We expect it to be out in full force for the 2019.

Bourghound:

"Deft but not imperceptible wood sets off spicy, fresh and ripe aromas of black cherry, raspberry, plenty of earth and a whiff of underbrush. The delicious and dense, even juicy, medium weight flavors possess fine underlying tension before concluding in a bracingly saline-inflected, balanced and sneaky long finale. This too is excellent for its level and should drink well both early and with up to a decade of bottle age."
