In most great vintages, this wine would be called cuvée 3,14. However, the 2015 vintage was so singular that the wine was given its own name.
Athanor is a reference to a furnace that medieval alchemists believed could turn base metals into gold. That gives you a sense of how extraordinary the wine is.
Just like 3,14, Athanor comes from ancient vines in the Côte du Py. You can expect the same jaw-dropping depth and purity as 3,14. By all accounts, Athanor delivers even more power, structure, and age-worthy architecture.
Foillard is one of our favorite producers in Beaujolais. When it comes to top bottlings, like 3,14 and Athanor, the only competition comes from Métras' very rare l'Ultime.
No one hits deliciousness, minerality, and precision the way that Foillard does. This magic combination is what makes us buy as much of every vintage that we can get our hands. We certainly bought every bottle of the Athanor that we could. Still, the quantities available are modest. Give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
