For many of us, Foillard is the master of Morgon. It's that simple.

Foillard's reputation looms so large that when I set out to write about one of his wines it almost feels unnecessary.

This is especially true when it comes to the Classique bottling. Classique is a wine less about conversation and more about drinking.

2015 was a riper vintage in Beaujolais, and it took the Classique to a new level of complexity and length. In any vintage, Foillard's Classique captures beautifully the silky textured, cherry-scented and mineral-tinged style of Morgon that is Foillard's signature. The 2015 has an incredible purity and rich layers of red fruits, tea leaves, floral notes, spice and minerality. There's also a nice vivacity that acts as a counterpoint.

We love it for its drinkability and the fact that it's priced gently enough to allow for bottles to get opened with abandon. There's a brightness and appealing texture that makes the Classique dangerously drinkable.

I'm going to wrap this up. To have Foillard at this price and in a very good vintage is something to jump on.
