Game-Changer: Selosse Brut Rosé

Posted by Ian McFadden

Selosse's Rosé is simply magical.

Jacques Selosse is famous for producing game-changing, utterly singular Champagnes. Out of his entire line-up, the rosé might be the most individual. It's a wine that burns itself into your memory.

The only issue is that when it comes to Selosse's rosé, I typically spend 9-12 months acquiring enough for an offer and then it disappears in a matter of hours.

The magic of this rosé is how it combines a penetrating minerality with a rich, layered complexity. The two are seamlessly integrated. Ultimately, it's this balancing act that makes the wine so thrilling.

The rosé possesses a regal, statuesque presence and grandeur that immediately announces itself. Explosive and detailed notes of chalk, flowers and kaleidoscopic red fruits jump from the glass. As extroverted as Selosse's Rosé is, there's so much depth and nuance that it's a wine that begs for meditation.

The layered complexity that Selosse offers may be without peer. We very much agree with Peter Liem's description of the wines: "It’s rare to find a champagne, or indeed, a wine of any kind, as profound in its expression and as multi-voiced in its complexity as Selosse’s are." The rosé exemplifies this. I don't get to offer it very often, but it's one of the most exciting offers that I put together each year.
