Holy Ground: 2012 Pierre Peters Cuvée Spéciale Les Chetillons

Posted by Ian McFadden

Le Mesnil is holy ground for Chardonnay, and Chétillons is one of the choicest parcels in all of Mesnil.

This made Chétillons one of the cult bottlings of Champagne. With perhaps the exception of Jacques Selosse, Pierre Peters is the Champagne that industry people talk about the most and in the most reverential terms. Chétillons plays an outsized role in Peters' status.

Chétillons is a renowned, very chalky vineyard. Peters' oldest vines in the site are nearly 70 years old and the youngest are 35 years. The old vines endow it with serious concentration. Generally speaking, what makes Chétillons so stunning is how it takes Mesnil's chalky steeliness and energy and adds a layer of ripe citrus and more palate presence.

Peters' 2012 Chétillons possesses the wine's famous high-tension acidity and piercing minerality. There's a radiance to this vintage that is especially riveting. The total package of power and precision is really stunning.

Simply put: This is some of the most beautiful Chardonnay in the world. There's very little to go around. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
