2013 Levet Côte-Rôtie La Chavaroche Magnums

The 2013 Chavaroche is one of my favorite young vintages of the wine.

Today, I'm very happy to offer magnums of Levet's 2013 Côte-Rôtie Chavaroche.

2013 in the Northern Rhône produced mineral, structured wines with a vibrant core of acidity. Tasting through 2013s, it's clear that Côte-Rôtie was especially successful.

The 2013 Chavaroche offers up a gorgeous cast of aromatics with tons finesse and energy. Everything is presented with a beautiful, seamless harmony.

When it comes to unyieldingly honest and unapologetically traditional Côte-Rôtie, Levet's wines are without peer. They are wildly untamed, beautifully compelling and utterly authentic expressions of Syrah. The 2013 Chavaroche captures all of this with startling clarity.

Chavaroche is a brutally rocky and steeply-terraced southwest facing vineyard. Levet is meticulous in the vineyard, but the grapes simply do their thing in the cellar – vinification is thoughtful, but there’s no artifice at work.

Neal Rosenthal, Levet’s importer, isn’t shy about singling Chavaroche out: “There is no more consistently great wine in our portfolio than Levet’s La Chavaroche…If you want the truest of Côte-Rôties…if you admire both the intellectual and the savage, then this is a must-buy wine.”

Also, Levet's wines represent amazing value. As pricing on many traditional Northern Rhône producers has gone vertical, pricing on Levet has barely budged. Considering Levet's track record for aging, the vintage and the price, this is one of the smartest magnum purchases that I can think of.
