"Impeccably well-balanced"
2014 d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs

Clos des Ducs is one of my favorite wines. Period.

I can't tell you how many times I've been blown away by Clos des Ducs. I've tasted them back to 1920 and the way that they age is simply haunting.

The 2014 Ducs is really exciting. Across the board, it’s a stunning collection. The 2014 Caillerets was my wine of the year in 2016. D’Angerville’s 2014s show brilliant complexity and saturating minerality. And the low yields give these qualities an undeniable presence. As always, Ducs is a high point of the line-up.

D’Angerville’s 2.4-hectare monopole Clos des Ducs is one of Volnay’s best sites. The steep and chalky Clos des Ducs, a monopole of d'Angerville, produces wines of singular intensity and breeding. It has no trouble competing with Grand Crus.

D’Angerville turned out one of the best collections in the Côte de Beaune in 2014. This was far from an easy vintage. There was hail early on, which thankfully spared Ducs for the most part, plus topsy-turvy weather through August. Thankfully, August brought great weather that carried into September. It was in these weeks that the high quality of the vintage took shape. The top examples of the Côte de Beaune 2014s are lovely, clear and mineral-driven wines.

The 2014 Ducs is all about beautiful clarity, finesse and understatement. It carries Ducs' depth and intensity, but it does so with mesmerizing grace. This is a Ducs that thrives on sleek mineral elegance and unabashed savory notes. The combination is very compelling. For me, this is a not to be missed version of Ducs. It's really impressive today, but its balance, subtlety and refinement makes me believe that this will be a sleeper vintage. It's best to go deep on this now, and that's why we created special 4-pack pricing.

I'm a huge fan of the 2014 red Burgs, and d'Angerville's Ducs shows the vintage at its best. It is a classic, understated vintage. We expect Ducs to age beautifully. Highly recommended.

Burghound: "Once again the wood treatment is quite unobtrusive on the understated nose that grudgingly reveals cool and ultra-pure aromas of violet, Asian-style tea, spice and a broad mélange of wild red berries. Like those of the Champans the superbly well-detailed medium weight flavors are intensely stony with the same sleek and polished palate feel that carries over to the impeccably well-balanced and hugely persistent finale. This isn't quite as concentrated but it is indisputably more complete."
