Without a doubt, the Sans Soufre takes the deliciousness and purity that makes Lapierre so compelling to the next level.
We've made the comparison with the normal sulphured version a bunch of times over many vintages. The unsulphured version consistently shows a textural dimension, a clarity of expression, and an intangible depth that sets it apart.
Almost as a rule, Lapierre excels in ripe vintages. The extra layer that sunny vintages endow Lapierre with really sets the wines apart. It gives them more punch and an extra dimension of complexity, but not at the expense of levity or that granite-inflected minerality that makes drinking Lapierre so lovely.
The 2019 is another example of Lapierre succeeding in a ripe vintage. It's a concentrated vintage for the wine with a washing freshness on the backend that keeps it lively.
The combination of frost, hail, and high temperatures in 2019 reduced yields greatly. There's never enough of Lapierre's Sans Soufre to go around. This year it will be even uglier. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
