Last Chance: 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé

Posted by Robert Schagrin

For me, Dom Pérignon's Rosé is one of the great experiences in wine.

I've loved the 2004 Rosé since the first time that I tasted it. Still, it's evolved in ways that I wouldn't have imagined over the past year. It's maintained a classicism that we haven't seen in the recent releases, but has gained an incredible amount of nuanced depth.

After a series of riper, more powerful vintages of Dom Pérignon Rosé (00, 02 and 03), 2004 marks a return to absolutely traditional proportions. It's about tension coupled with intensity. A wine that possesses a subtle precision, purity, and class. 2004 presents the impeccably judged detail and quiet regal elegance that I always look for in Dom Pérignon.

The Rosé hovers in a mysterious place between sparkling white wine and red Burgundy. This is a world-class Champagne of saturating, tactile presence. As they age, they go to another level.

Pinot Noir leads the charge in Dom Pérignon's Rosé, as you'd expect, with the addition of nearly 20% red still wine from Bouzy and Aÿ. This is what gives the wine its plush and airy mid-palate, while a good dose of mineral Chardonnay provides a firm backbone, serious lift and cellar worthiness.

There's no doubt that Dom Perignon's 2004 Rosé will go down as an absolutely gorgeous edition of this wine. It already boasts the explosive multi-dimensional complexity that I love. I'm very happy to offer it at this extremely sharp price.

2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2004 Dom Pérignon Rosé has put on remarkable weight over the last year or so. A rich, voluptuous wine, the 2004 Rosé hits the palate with stunning depth and resonance. The flavors are bold, rich and beautifully resonant from start to finish. Raspberry, cranberry, smoke, spice and crushed rocks build to the stunning, powerful finish. Vinous and ample, the 2004 Rosé will drink well for decades. The 2004 just keeps getting better with time in bottle."
