"Like a Baby Griottes" -
2015 Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes

Posted by Ian McFadden

In 2015, Fourrier nailed it with his Cherbaudes.

Cherbaudes is one of the overlooked bottles in Fourrier's line-up.

There's something about its elegant, stony minerality and silky textured profile that doesn't scream out in exactly the same way as some of the other wines.

With that said, there have been numerous times that I've opened up an aged bottle of Cherbaudes and have been deeply impressed. It's clear that some time in bottle teases out nuances that aren't as obvious in youth.

The 2015 represents a significant departure. It makes just how impressive it is known. The fact that Stephen Tanzer called it "a baby Griottes" drives home just how special a vintage it is for the wine.

By now, the greatness of the 2015 red Burgundy vintage has been well documented. It's an incredibly complete vintage - easily one of the best of the past few decades. The wines possess serious concentration and drive, coupled with striking elegance, freshness and lift.

Fourrier exploited 2015 in a very beautiful way. Precision and clarity are Fourrier's calling cards. In 2015, he turned out ultra-detailed wines of serious transparency, finessed structures and whip-smart tension.

The Cherbaudes is a beautiful example of the brilliance of Fourrier's 2015s. It offers a gorgeous texture, studded with notes of earth, game, rocks and high-toned floral notes. It's a wine that grabs your attention based on its seductive mouthfeel and purity of expression.

The 2015 Cherbaudes shows Fourrier at the height of his powers. In this vintage, he seems to have teased out every bit of finesse and whispering, mineral-accented complexity from the site.
