The more we taste 2013 Beaujolais, the more its successes stand out as being truly special.
Foillard's Côte du Py is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the vintage.
That's why we sought out as many magnums as we could get our hands on. This is a vintage of Foillard to go big on in every way possible.
A couple of months ago we offered bottles of the 2013 Côte du Py. We were so excited by the wine. It had the finesse, the vividness and the texture that we love about our favorite vintages of Foillard's Côte du Py. The 2013 edition shares the snap and fresh transparency of vintages like 2010 and 2007. It's in these fairly cool vintages that Foillard produces the wines that wow us the most. These vintages carry Côte du Py's wild cherry fruit, minerality, and floral-tinged quality wonderfully well.
We've been slowly building our collection of magnums over the past couple of months. It's unthinkable not to clear some cellar space each vintage for Foillard, but 2013 really stands out.
This is a vintage of Foillard's Côte du Py to watch evolve in the cellar and to drink in abundance. As a final cautionary note, magnums are never available in great quantity. While we've amassed a good amount, at these prices we'll likely have to allocate.
