Morgon's Master in Fleurie:
2010 Foillard Fleurie

Posted by Joe Salamone

2010 remains one of our favorite vintages of Foillard's Fleurie.

When we saw this parcel, we jumped on it.

The wine comes dangerously close to being the Platonic ideal of Fleurie. It's exceedingly lithe, super-fine in its texture and delivers a feminine delicacy appropriate for the Cru, which is often referred to as the Queen of Beaujolais.

Foillard's Fleurie is sourced from sites of impressive pedigree: the climats of Grille Midi, La Madone and Champagne.

The Fleurie is sourced from a mere 2 hectares making this a much more elusive bottling than his legendary Morgon Côte du Py.

The 2010 Fleurie has a charming, silken elegance with perfumed aromatics of strawberry and plums, intermingled with a clear soil expression and minerality. It's beautifully tense and energetic.

We're big fans of Foillard's 2010s. They are classical examples with dazzling purity. We bought every bottle that we could, but it's a modest parcel. We're only sending to a small group of Beaujolais buyers. Still, a sellout is likely.
