There's no shortage of legendary vintages of Pergole Torte. Still, 2016 looks like one destined to occupy the "among the best ever" category.
Pergole Torte is about nuance, elegance, and incisiveness. The 2016 consolidates all of these qualities and takes them to the extreme. It's a singular vintage.
Today, we're happy to offer Montevertine's 2016 Le Pergole Torte for $179.95 per bottle and $171.95 in 4-packs.
I should say from the outset that this is the most anticipated release of Pergole Torte that I can remember. I expect this modest parcel to disappear.
Montevertine is in Radda, one of the coolest, highest-altitude spots in the Chianti Classico zone. It is here, and in Montevertine's hands, that Sangiovese reaches an unparalleled level of nobility.
When it comes to Sangiovese, Pergole Torte stands alone for how deeply complex and graceful it is. It's fairly subtle, but mind-blowing nonetheless. As Antonio Galloni writes, "Le Pergole Torte isn’t a great Tuscan or Italian wine. It is simply one of the world’s elite wines."
The 2016 is a tour de force. I've never encountered a vintage so packed with complexity and sheer presence while remaining nimble. Antonio Galloni's nails the wine when he writes: "off the charts intensity while remaining light on its feet." The aromatics really pop with floral notes, spice, herbs, smoky minerality and dark fruit. All of this is delivered with refinement, grace, and impeccable harmony.
In recent years, Pergole Torte has become an obsession of mine. The 2016 represents something special. As I said earlier, the word is out. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2016 Le Pergole Torte is magnificent, just as it was last year. Rich, dense and explosive, with stunning depth and texture, the 2016 possesses off the charts intensity while remaining light on its feet for such rich a powerful, layered wine. There is almost no perception of tannin. Black cherry, plum, lavender, menthol, spice and new leather all meld together in a pliant, striking Pergole Torte endowed with tremendous pedigree and nuance. Put simply, the 2016 is off the charts great. The only reason the 2016 does not earn a perfect score is that cramped quarters in the cellar oblige Montevertine to bottle Pergole Torte in several lots."
