"One of the best wines made at Côte Rôtie" -
1997 Jamet Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune

"The Brune is consistently one of the best wines made at Côte Rôtie."

-John Livingstone-Learmonth, The Wines of the Northern Rhône

If you love classic Côte-Rôtie, Jamet is the name to know. For decades, Jamet has been the benchmark of Côte-Rôtie.

Jamet's Côte Brune is his top bottling and painfully rare. It comes from a tiny parcel of old vines.

I should warn you from the outset that finding aged examples of this wine is very difficult. This is one of the oldest Côte Brunes available in the country. Quantities are really modest.

Côte-Rôtie is known for being the most finessed, nimble and Burgundian of the Northern Rhône. There is currently no producer in the region that epitomizes Côte-Rôtie with as much classicism, with as much precision as Jamet.

The Côte Brune comes from schist soils and adds a slow-to-evolve sternness and extra dimension of nuance. It's an utterly captivating wine - a monument to the greatest that Côte-Rôtie has to offer.

Jamet produced some of the wines of the vintage in 1997, and of course the Côte Brune leads the charge. It's a gamey and sternly mineral edition of the wine. There's an incredible amount of savory depth that's absolutely fascinating.

This is one of the great bottles of the Northern Rhône. I wish that I had more to offer, but am glad to present this modest parcel.
