One of the finest grower-producers - 2010 Ledru Cuvee du Goulte

Posted by Joe Salamone

Ledru's Champagnes are famous for their steely, chalky backbones. The 2010 Goulté is a dramatic example of this.

It's a beautiful example of Goulté showing a tensile, floral and insanely energetic side of the cuvée.

Cuvée du Goulté is Ledru's top wine; it's made up of all Pinot Noir sourced from her best parcels in Ambonnay and based on the first juice to come out of the press, which is considered to be the best.

The 2010 is an especially kinetic and refined expression of Goulté. It has beautifully textured minerality and deep, subtle complexity. It's high-toned with floral notes, spice and Ambonnay's classic red fruits.

Ledru produces some of the most lovingly made and terroir-expressive Champagnes around. She handles every aspect of production on her own (from the vineyards, to the paperwork, to the cellar where every bottle is hand-disgorged.)

Ledru's Champagnes are easily some of my absolute favorites. We were some of the first people in the U.S. to get behind her wines. The early days were good times; you could score decently sized parcels. These days Ledru has caught on in a big way and finding her wines in quantity has gotten tough. We expect it will only get more difficult as she has lost some of the vineyards she'd been renting.

I'm always excited to offer Ledru, but also scared. There's so little to go around. Each time that we offer Ledru, we have to make painful allocations. Please give us your ideal order and we'll do what we can.
