"One of the finest Spätlese"
2015 Donnhoff Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Spätlese

"It's one of the finest Spätlese Rieslings you can buy from this vintage." -Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

Dönnhoff had a tremendous vintage in 2015 with a nearly unprecedented quality of grapes. In fact, Helmut Dönnhoff himself said “I have only had grapes this beautiful once in my entire career, and this was in my very first vintage of 1971.”

Of course, Hermannshöhle tops the list. Niederhauser Hermannshöhle is Dönnhoff's crown jewel and the family's oldest site. It is without a doubt one of the Nahe's top vineyard sites. The wines rival the best anywhere with power, length, and elegance. Above all, Hermannshöhle has a refinement and completeness that separates it from the pack.

The 2015 Hermannshöhle is a brilliant example of the site. It's texturally seamless, transparent and possesses an airy finesse. The mineral tension is shocking. And the way that it's tactile and weightless at the same time amazes.

The magic of 2015 in Germany is the way that it combines extroverted concentration with verve and an ultra-clear, cool fruit profile. The combination is beautiful: pure, explosive fruit and depth with crackling acidity.

Dönnhoff's 2015 Hermannshöhle is an exemplar of the vintage. We did a quiet offer for the '15 Hermannshöhle Spätlese in July. It sold out quickly. We were very happy to land another parcel and since it's Rieslingfeier weekend this seemed like a good time. I imagine that this parcel will disappear quickly, too.

2015 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Spätlese

Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Spätlese opens with an aristocratic bouquet of coolish, flinty slate and citrus perfume along with concentrated Riesling flavors. There is great complexity and expression here! On the palate, this wine is highly elegant and its seamless, silky texture is like that of the Dellchen GG. Very salty, full of finesse and tension on the palate--this is a great, perfectly balanced Spätlese. There is no other Riesling in the Nahe that has such nobly aristocratic attitude. It's one of the finest Spätlese Rieslings you can buy from this vintage."
