"Paris has turned out brilliant wines"
2015 Vincent Paris Cornas La Geynale

Posted by Joe Salamone

2015 is an unmissable vintage in Cornas.

Even Jancis Robinson drops her British reserve and urges wine lovers to “grab northern Rhône 2015 reds with both hands.”

The excitement over the 2015 Northern Rhône reds is huge. By all accounts, Cornas was one of the stars of the vintage.

It's an appellation that can be bone crushing with stark, dark minerality. The 2015 Cornas are packed and soaring with a dynamic energy, power and complexity.

It's no surprise that 2015 is also the year everything clicked for Vincent Paris. For years, he's been one of the most talked about young winemakers in the Northern Rhône. 2015 cements him as one of the region's top talents.

We are in complete agreement with the Wine Advocate's Jeb Dunnuck when he writes, "Paris has turned out brilliant wines in 2015 that readers need to snatch up."

Geynale is a special wine. It's comprised of both the Reynard and Geynale vineyards. Allemand has made Reynard famous, but Geynale is one of the great vineyards of Cornas capable of incredible precision and finesse.

For years, it was the old guard producer, Robert Michel, who released stunning Geynales. Michel was one of the formative traditionalist producers of top Cornas and an influential mentor to Thiérry Allemand. Michel retired in 2006 and left La Geynale to his nephew, Vincent Paris.

It’s clear that Paris’ greatest fortune was coming into the Geynale parcel. These 4 superbly situated hectares of Syrah, planted by Paris’ great-grandfather in 1910, yield wines of untamed greatness, power and authority. When it comes to the Geynale, it’s obvious that Paris understands his terroir on a profound level.

Even against the backdrop of Paris’ strong line-up, the Geynale stands out for its nuance, elegance, and inky, gamey, floral mystery. There’s a wild complexity, dark minerality, and a vast array of spice, earth, and meaty notes.

Over the years we’ve seen Paris’ wines gain detail and elegance. What drew us to the 2015 Geynale was its mind-bending intensity, clarity and precision. The tension between these elements elevates the 2015 Geynale to stunning heights. Don't miss.

2015 Vincent Paris Cornas Geynale

Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Cornas La Geynale comes from the oldest vines of the estate and the lieux-dits of Reynard and La Genale, all steep, granite terroirs. This cuvée, which is never destemmed, is aged in older barrels. It's certainly the most classic in style, with more pepper, game, olives and earth, yet still possesses the same purity, fruit and wealth of material found in these cuvées. Full-bodied, deep, concentrated, structured and perfectly balanced, it’s an incredibly complete wine that will need to be forgotten for 4-5 years, and will keep for 10-15 years. Bravo!"
