Drouhin's Clos des Mouches is an expectation-defying wine beloved by Burgundy insiders. On paper, it's a Beaune 1er Cru and nothing to get excited about. In actuality, Mouches boasts complexity and longevity that rival Grand Crus. Burghound’s Allen Meadows has raved about the 1945 and 1949 vintages at around forty years of age.
Once initiated, it comes as no surprise that this prime mid-slope vineyard was one of the first purchases of Maurice Drouhin when he essentially established domaine bottlings in the 1920s.
The 2022 Clos Mouches Blanc offers a finely judged balance of silky mineral-tinged fruit and cut. It's a really exciting and irresistible wine.
