The 2019ers come to the market with considerable buzz – Klaus Peter Keller has called this “one of the best vintages of the last 20 years.”

True to this grand sentiment, the 2019 “Senior” does not disappoint. It is deeply saturating, with more dry extract and mid-palate density than any “Senior” of recent memory (we might go back to 2012 as an appropriate comparison). The 2019 is incisive, penetrating with absolutely phenomenal length, and has a gripping, muscular structure.

Unlike the 2018ers, this newest vintage is more classic in proportion, more focused and finessed. Florian himself has described the vintage as “perfect in proportion” as “truly Saar” – these are the kind of vintages, flavor and intensity without weight, that have made the Saar perhaps the most revered landscape for Riesling on earth.

It's wines like this that have made Florian Lauer one of the most famous Riesling specialists in Germany. Senior is one of our most popular offerings every year. Yields were down 25-40% from the 2018 vintage, so while quantities are good now, this won’t last.
