I feel fortunate to be able to offer this very modest parcel of 2022 Spätburgunder Bellen and Möhlin. It's the sort of offer that we could only sneak in over a holiday weekend.
These are some of the greatest and most fascinating Pinot Noirs in Germany. They're beautifully precise, with intricate structures and amazing purity.
Wasenhaus' Alex Götze and Christoph Wolber worked in Burgundy prior to founding Wasenhaus. They worked at an impressive roster of estates (Comte Armand, Bernard van Berg, Leflaive, de Montille, and Pierre Morey). They brought this Burgundian expertise back to Germany's Baden region, focusing on old-vine parcels and old clonal selections.
Both Bellen and Möhlin come from limestone soils. Bellen is steep and always marries power to textural refinement. Möhlin is the grander and more complex of the lineup, coming from especially poor limestone soils in the cooler side valley.
The 2022s have incredible transparency and depth. There's a beautiful, luminous lift to the wine. They have stunning textures and really gorgeous fineness. Weightless intensity is what defines both wines.
