The 2019 is a vintage that checks all the boxes. It's been nearly seven years since we've done an l'Esprit offer. The 2019 is so impressive that it demanded to have a spotlight on it.
The l'Esprit bottling wonderfully captures Rodolphe Peters' unparalleled ability to produce Champagnes of refinement and mineral-inflected elegance.
The 2019 takes this to an extreme. It's an intense vintage, but the intensity doesn't show in power as much as cut. It possesses a laser focus with a gorgeously polished and tension-filled mineral core.
L’Esprit is only made in top vintages, and it's sourced from four single vineyards in the Grand Crus of Le Mesnil, Avize, Cramant, and Oger. In any given vintage, the blend is at least 40% Le Mesnil, which accounts for the wine’s racy finesse and finely detailed minerality.
Every time that I have drunk 2019 l'Esprit, its purity and brilliance stand out. It is a thrilling example from one of the masters of the Chardonnay grape.
