“As is often the case, I was particularly taken with the quality I found here." - Burghound
When d’Angerville’s wines are in the zone, they’re absolutely breathtaking.
They are some of Burgundy’s longest-lived wines; I've tasted bottles from the 60s that were mind-blowing.
Taillepieds is one of d'Angerville's wines that people get obsessed with. There's a group of people who hold Taillepieds even more dear than Ducs. The 2017 vintage is simply stunning.
Today, we’re happy to offer d’Angerville’s 2017 Volnay 1er Taillepieds for $179.95 per bottle and $389.95 for magnums.
Please note: we have an extremely limited amount of magnums. Normally, I wouldn't include them, but this is a vintage that begs to be aged in mags.
D’Angerville’s Taillepieds parcel is half the size of their Ducs holdings and a quarter of Champans, making it one of the hardest of d'Angerville's wines to find in quantity.
Taillepieds is all about raciness - it's full of stony minerality and has an intricate depth. The Taillepieds plot sits just above Champans and is very steeply sloped with poor, rocky soil. In 2017, the site shines.
Guillaume d'Angerville describes the 2017s as having “a harmonious blend of finesse and energy with excellent terroir transparency.” This is spot on, and the reason we fell in love with this wine.
It is not very often that we have the opportunity to offer d’Angerville’s Taillepieds. It's always a special occasion when we can. We expect our modest parcel will sell out quickly. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.

Burghound: “Here the reticent nose is at once ripe yet cool with a lovely layered quality to the mix of violet, spice, dark berry liqueur and Asian-style tea aromas. The super-sleek, intense, mineral-driven and refined medium weight flavors that culminate in a very serious, youthfully austere and built-to-age finish that just goes on and on. A classic Taillepieds that will require extended patience.”
