Clos des Ducs produces some of the most intense, mineral-driven, and deeply complex examples of red Burgundy.
Whether it's the stony and intricate raciness of Taillepieds or the singular combination of intensity and breeding of Clos des Ducs, d'Angerville's wines possess a captivating silkiness, finesse, and excellent transparency.
For my wine of the year, it was imperative for me to choose a top-flight Burgundy for under $100.
These two wines dramatize what makes Lafarge so great.
The 2002 Ducs is a legend.
For the past couple of weeks, I've been working through a recent purchase of back-vintage d'Angerville. I saved the best for last.
Catching d'Angerville's Champans in the right vintage is an extraordinary experience.
Last weekend, we offered the amazing 2010 Champans. Today, I'm happy to offer the 2008, another personal favorite vintage of Champans. These are the only bottles available in the country.
“As is often the case, I was particularly taken with the quality I found here." - Burghound When d’Angerville’s wines are in the zone, they’re absolutely breathtaking.
Lowest Price In The Nation Angerville’s monopole Clos des Ducs is the crown jewel of Volnay. Clos des Ducs produces some of the most intense, mineral-driven, and deeply complex examples of red Burgundy. It's a wine that ages so beautifully that it almost demands to be bottled in magnum.
The 1er Cru Caillerets is likely the most supremely elegant and mineral wine of Volnay.
Last Monday, we offered d'Angerville's 2013 Ducs. Today, I'm excited to offer the 2010 Champans. I've been obsessed with d'Angerville since my visit there a few weeks ago. It was magical.
D'Angerville's 2013 Ducs is an astonishing success. D'Angerville's 2013s stand out for their striking clarity and precision. The 2013 Ducs distills the site down to its essence. And it's absolutely captivating.
In 2016, I made d'Angerville's 2014 Caillerets my wine of the year. Almost two years later, I'm really pleased with the decision. The wine is beautiful. That's why I couldn't resist this small parcel.
D'Angerville's Caillerets is Volnay at its most painstakingly precise. It's also one of the hardest to find in quantity.
In December, I made the 2014 Caillerets my wine of the year. Since then, I've only grown more fond of this bottle.
Along with Clos des Ducs, Caillerets is Volnay's top 1er Cru site. Many Burgundy experts would argue forcefully for its Grand Cru caliber. Today, we're happy to offer a 2008 Caillerets at a price that many current vintage Bourgogne Rouge go for.
D’Angerville’s Champans has an extraordinary track record for aging. Every time we have the opportunity to drink old Champans it’s an amazing experience. We’ve had bottles with fifty years of age that were still gorgeously fresh and completely stunning.
It's very likely that the 2005 Clos des Ducs will go down as one of the greatest examples ever. It's an epic wine.
The Vendanges Sélectionnées may be the hidden gem of Lafarge’s line-up. I'm happy to offer the 2013 Volnay VS at the lowest price around.
This is one of my best scores of the year. There are times when I can imagine drinking nothing besides Lafarge. The wines are brimming with soul, finesse and fascination.
"The Master shows them how once again!" —Clive Coates Clive Coates said it right. Some of you may be surprised that he's talking about the '04 Chênes. No one would say this was an easy vintage for Burgundy.
There are times when I can imagine drinking nothing besides Lafarge. That speaks volumes about their consistency, soulfulness and age-worthiness. Every vintage, Lafarge seems to find a way to shock and surprise. When you taste his '03s, this becomes clear. He produced incredibly and uniquely successful wines in this brutally hot and difficult vintage.
I've always loved Lafarge's wines, but over the past couple of years I've grown obsessed with them. When you drink old bottles of Lafarge, it really cements how profound, soulful and fine they are. They offer some of the most compelling and singular Burgundy experiences that I know.
