Montevertine's Le Pergole Torte is a wine that we're in awe of.
Today, we celebrate Pergole Torte in a very big way.
To quickly underscore the rarity of 12 Liters of Pergole Torte, there are currently no other listings in the U.S.
Pergole Torte reaches a level of nobility, elegance and age-worthiness that's simply extraordinary. Simply put, there’s Sangiovese and then, there’s Pergole Torte. No wine takes the grape to the levels of nobility and ageworthiness the way Montevertine’s Pergole Torte does.
When it comes to Sangiovese, Pergole Torte stands alone for how deeply complex and graceful it is. It's fairly subtle, but mind-blowing nonetheless. As Antonio Galloni writes, "Le Pergole Torte isn’t a great Tuscan or Italian wine. It is simply one of the world’s elite wines."
Montevertine is in Radda, one of the coolest, highest-altitude spots in the Chianti Classico zone. It is here, and in Montevertine's hands, that Sangiovese reaches an unparalleled level of incisive class and beautifully haunting aromatics.
The 2000 vintage was a warm one in Chianti. What makes the 2000 Pergole Torte so extraordinary is its agility and delicacy. Tasting the wine, you'd never expect it to have come from a ripe vintage. There's that much rigor and precision. It has a fascinating weightless impression with aromatics that really pop with floral notes, spice, herbs, smoky minerality and dark fruit.
I've been fortunate enough to have tasted Pergole Torte out of large formats numerous times and the wine always shows brilliantly out of the format. You get an even greater impression of its grace and regal breeding. The 2000 will show more lift and brightness than you would find in bottles. As I mentioned before, these are very limited. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
