Singular German Pinot - Extreme Weightlessness: 2016 Enderle & Moll “Liaison”

Posted by Joe Salamone

Enderle & Moll obviously have the touch with Pinot Noir.

Few, if any, producers in Germany render the grape with as much fascination and light-on-its-feet elegance.

There's simply nothing to compare them to in all of Germany.

At this point, they have a cult following and their tiny production quickly disappears from the market. The wines are simply too fascinating and too clear of an expression of Pinot Noir to not get somewhat obsessed with.

The “Liaison” represents the “sweet spot” in terms of quality and price. When you put Liaison head-to-head with Pinots from Burgundy, or any other place, it becomes obvious that Liaison is one of the greatest Pinot Noir values in the world.

The “Liaison” is so named because it’s sourced from old vines on both limestone and sandstone. Sven Enderle and Florian Moll work the vineyards both organically and biodynamically. The Pinots are pressed with a basket press and the elévage is carried out in Dujac barrels sourced directly from the domaine. The wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

The effect is intense and dizzying. They're wild, gorgeously aromatic and thrive on intensity married to a dancing elegance. The 2016 has beautifully complex aromatics and an amazing lift. It's difficult to imagine a wine combining such expressiveness, weightlessness and intensity so well.

We don't know of another Pinot Noir that offers such interest and is so finely rendered for anywhere near this price point. The 2016 is definitely something to stock up on.
