"The 2017 is shaping up to be an epic Montevertine and a huge overachiever." -Antonio Galloni
Montevertine's Rosso di Toscano is a bottle that we have a deep affection for. We've had absolutely brilliant bottles with over a decade of age.
While Le Pergole Torte is the pinnacle of the estate, the Rosso di Toscano represents incredible value. It's one of the smartest buys that we know and there are vintages where the gap between Pergole Torte and the Montevertine bottling narrows considerably. The 2017 is just such a vintage.
We're happy to offer the Montevertine 2017 Rosso di Toscano for $66.95 on bottles and $59.95 in 4-packs.
In any vintage, the Rosso di Toscano stands out with its elegance and refinement. There's an effortless, heartfelt, and graceful quality to the wine that always amazes us. When you combine this with the wine's nuanced complexity, you get a clear picture of why we consider Montevertine's Rosso di Toscano an essential part of our Italian program and why it's a fixture in our cellars.
The 2017 is profoundly extreme. It was a warm vintage where yields were down 40%. This is a jam-packed, grandly scaled vintage for Montevertine. Galloni calls the vintage at Montevertine "some of the most viscerally thrilling, breathtaking wines I have ever tasted here, or anywhere, for that matter."
The Montevertine boasts power and class. The added punch and layers of dark fruits give you the impression of the ripe vintage. Still, you get plenty of the finesse that we just spoke of along with a luminous undercurrent of energy and high-toned floral notes. As always, it offers up a beguiling set of aromatics with incredibly expressive notes of red fruits, herbs, spice, and floral notes.
Montevertine is in Radda, one of the coolest, highest-altitude spots in the Chianti Classico zone. It is here, and in Montevertine's hands, that Sangiovese reaches an unparalleled level of incisive class and intricate composition. In vintages like 2017, Montevertine assumes jawdropping dimensions.
