Yvon Métras' basic Beaujolais snuck up on us. In the right vintage, it can be one of our favorites of his wines.
We love the basic Beaujolais not for its grandeur and complexity, but for its lightness, lift and perfume.
In 2015, these qualities really paid off. 2015 is a riper and more powerful vintage. Think of a cross between 2014 and 2009. The levity of Métras' Beaujolais really shines in 2015.
Compared to many other vintages, the 2015 boasts more power and a darker profile. With that said, the Métras' 2015 Beaujolais possesses a startling agility for the vintage. It's beautifully gulpable.
The 2015 Beaujolais has the typical rush of floral notes and energetic dark fruits, with a streak of granite minerality. The extra dose of power in 2015 amplifies the suave textural appeal that makes Métras so compelling and fascinating.
This bottle highlights how joyful and intriguing Beaujolais can be. Few wines offer the same combination of drinkability and intrigue.
