We first offered Trousselle's Hautes-Côtes de Beaune En Cre in the 2019 vintage. It almost immediately became our most popular offer of that year.
Finding a sub-$30 red Burgundy that really delivers borders on the impossible.
Since discovering the wines a few years ago, Trousselle has been our go-to producer for everyday Burgundy. The quality that he turns out for the price is beyond astonishing.
Trousselle is a very small producer working in the Hautes Cotes de Beaune. The appellation is large, but Trousselle’s vineyards are located in a prime valley between St Aubin and St Romain with abundant limestone soils. It's a cooler location that absolutely thrived in the 2021 vintage.
The 2021 En Cre has a lovely snap underneath spice-accented red fruits. An earthy minerality gives the wine another dimension of complexity. Above all, this is a delicious red Burgundy.
Trousselle is an extremely skilled viticulturist, and he works his vines with painstaking care. He’s also well respected in the region. In fact, he’s currently working with Pierre Boisson of Boisson-Vadot on a project in the Hautes Cotes de Beaune and he will be in charge of all of the farming.
Affordable Burgundy has all but disappeared, but this problem has sparked a renewed interest in Burgundy’s “lesser” regions. Quality producers are popping up in areas like the Hautes Cotes, and thanks in part to changes in the climate, the wines are better than ever. I strongly advise you to take advantage of this offer. I doubt we'll see a Burgundy value this impressive again all year.
