D’Angerville’s Champans has an extraordinary track record for aging.
Every time we have the opportunity to drink old Champans it’s an amazing experience. We’ve had bottles with fifty years of age that were still gorgeously fresh and completely stunning.
D’Angerville’s Champans shows Volnay’s powerful and deeply mineral side, while remaining beautifully detailed and finessed. It’s a simultaneously intense and elegant expression of Volnay.
In 2014, Champans delivers its iron minerality with impeccable focus and verve. Stephen Tanzer puts it well when he writes that the 2014 “boasts superb precision and cut.”
When you taste d'Angerville's 2014s, you wouldn't imagine any of the trials that occured in the vintage. It's a stunning collection. Across the board, d’Angerville’s 2014s show brilliant complexity and saturating minerality. And the low yields give these qualities an undeniable presence.
For the Côte de Beaune, the 2014 vintage presented its fair share of difficulties, especially in the beginning. In the end, top producers turned out impressive, clear and mineral-driven wines, exactly the way we like our Burgundy. Unsurprisingly, d'Angerville turned out one of the best collections in the Côte de Beaune.
The short story is that 2014 brought a June hailstorm and then topsy-turvy weather through August. Thankfully, August brought great weather that carried into September. It was in these weeks that the high quality of the vintage took shape.
The 2014 Champans flaunts a silken texture and outstanding length. There’s a sleek refinement and a riveting, tensile energy to the wine. When you consider the incredible structure and concentration, the ageability becomes obvious. This is a bottle that will sing after a decade or two in the cellar.
As we mentioned earlier, yields were way down in 2014, so there’s not much of this to go around. Please give us your ideal order and we’ll do our best.

2014 D'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Champans
Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media: Bright medium red. Very ripe black cherry and chocolate aromas are lifted by a floral element. Intense red and darker berry flavors are accented by a touch of blood orange bitterness. Boasts superb precision and cut but also boasts the sucrosité and underlying silkiness of texture to give it earlier appeal than the Taillepieds in spite of its youthful austerity.
