"The 2020 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Grandes Crayères 1er Cru is terrific." -Antonio Galloni
Laherte is one of the most talented growers in Champagne. We recently had a really exciting tasting of Laherte's champagnes.
As is often the case, the Grandes Crayères was the star of the tasting.
This is an amazing bottle of champagne. The combination of terroir-soaked honesty and sophistication always makes Grandes Crayères a standout.
The majority of Laherte's vines are in Coteaux Sud d’Epernay, an area between the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne that has chalky soil with a thin layer of clay on top. It's hard not to feel how the chalk contributes to Laherte's signature of tension and fineness.
The Grandes Crayères is all Chardonnay and is sourced from two very chalky parcels in Chavot planted in 1953 and 1978.
The 2020 has incredible clarity with a jaw-dropping, multifaceted, and nuanced complexity. The kinetic energy and appealing, tightly-knit chalky texture are thrilling. The resonant depth and incredible detail seal the deal on a seriously compelling champagne.
I've drunk this bottle multiple times and have recommended it widely. It never fails to impress. I'm very happy to offer the Grandes Crayeres at very sharp pricing.
