"The 2013 Barbaresco Pajè will leave readers weak at the knees"
2013 Roagna Barbaresco Pajè

Posted by Joe Salamone

When they were released, we felt that the 2013 Roagnas represented the high-water mark for this well-established estate.

Retasting Roagna's 2013s recently really drove home just how successful the wines were. Of course, Pajè leads the charge.

Roagna's 2013s have a radiant clarity and a punchy dynamic energy that's thrilling. Generally speaking, 2013 is one of the top vintages of the past decade. Roagna nailed capturing the pristine and classical nature of the vintage.

Roagna's 2013 Barbaresco Pajè simply explodes with aromatic nuance.

It's difficult to think of Roagna and not think of the Pajé vineyard. They have other great and more famous sites, like Asili, but Pajé often seems like the beating heart of the estate. The 2013 Barbaresco Pajé has incredible perfume with soaring lift. There's amazing class and clarity of expression. The level of complexity is jaw-dropping. It covers everything, with high-toned notes of flowers, herbs, spice, earth, and deep minerality.

The 2013 Pajé is on track to age magnificently. As we were tasting the 2013s, I immediately started hunting down Roagna from the vintage. I'm really happy to have landed this rare back-vintage parcel of Pajè. It's one of the highlights of the formidable 2013 collection.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2013 Barbaresco Pajè will leave readers weak at the knees with its stunning aromatics. Spicebox, cedar, tobacco, licorice and menthol speak to the essence of Pajè. A wine of depth and pedigree, the 2013 has a lot to offer. Orange peel, cinnamon, rose petal and mint add the closing shades of nuance in a deceptively medium-bodied Barbaresco that has plenty of backing structure and tannic clout to age well for many years to come."
