I'm going to keep this short. Over the years, we've made our feelings about Chave clear. These are some of the greatest wines in the world.
Today, I'm very happy to offer two back-vintages of Chave that could serve as bookends of Chave's stylistic range and testaments the profundity of Chave's Hermitage.
Both wines lay bare the nobility of Chave. They highlight the harmony, clarity, depth, and rigorous architecture that makes the wines so compelling and so long-lived.
The 1995 is a form of classicism that I'm not convinced we've seen in subsequent vintages. It's a bottle that I drink with the utmost pleasure a couple times a year and it never ceases to amaze me. There's a verve, sternness and bright aromatic complexity to the wine that I really love.
The 2000 is a deeper more layered vintage. It's a wine that always delights and has evolved beautifully. I love the way that the wine combines richness with such lift and a pristine expression.
Chave’s masterful Hermitage is the crown jewel of the Northern Rhône. There’s simply no better expression of Syrah on the planet. Both the 1995 and 2000 offer glimpses of the wine in top form.
