The Pinnacle of Py Magnum Edition
2016 Foillard Morgon Cuvee 3,14 Magnums

Posted by Joe Salamone

Jean Foillard is one of Beaujolais' greatest winemakers. And 3,14 is his magnum opus.

Following up on Tuesday's offering of 750s, I'm happy to offer 2016 3,14 in magnum. Right away, I should mention that these are rare, very limited and that this offer is only going to a small group of Foillard supporters.

The 3,14 bottling is only made in special years. Whenever a 3,14 is produced, it is one of the most exciting releases of the year.

Simply put, it is one of the most profound and captivating Beaujolais around. Gamay seldom reaches such levels of depth, sophistication, and complexity. The 2016 vintage dramatizes what a singular wine the 3,14 is. It's intense, soaring, and finely tuned.

Côte du Py is known for being one of Beaujolais' greatest sites. Foillard's 3,14 includes a healthy dose of his oldest vines in Côte du Py. When you taste the 3,14, it's clear that only the most beautiful fruit makes the cut. 3,14 debuted in 2003 and is made only in vintages that Foillard thinks will make a distinctly interesting wine, separate from his regular Côte du Py.

The 2016 is monumental. You can expect an outrageous purity, incredible nuance, and explosive, exotically-spiced aromatics. There's serious intensity married to a lovely airiness.

This bottle represents a compelling example of the heights that Beaujolais can reach. There are very few wines from the region that can even compete. As is often the case with wines this unique, there's not much to go around. Please give us your ideal order, and we'll try our best.
