The Pinnacle Revisited - 0.36ha:
2016 Jouan Clos Saint-Denis

Posted by Ian McFadden

Jouan's range reaches its absolute peak with their Clos Saint- Denis.

The Grand Cru Clos St. Denis is celebrated for its class, purity, feminine grace and, simultaneously, for its intensity. It’s a perfect match for Jouan.

We offered Jouan's 2016 Clos St-Denis on the Saturday after Thanksgiving last year. It was an offer sent to a small group of people on what's always a quiet weekend. In case you missed it, I'm very happy to be able to offer the wine a second time today.

Finding Jouan's Clos Saint-Denis in quantity is very difficult. Just to underscore its rarity, I'll mention that these are the only bottles currently available in the U.S.

Jouan’s wines are famous for possessing a captivating mixture of perfume and delicacy. The wines' signature of subtlety and mysterious depth of complexity reach another level in the Clos St. Denis.

The 2016 Clos Saint-Denis is a classic example of the wine - it's a wine of transparency with gorgeous textured finesse and low octane delicacy. However, the vintage endows the wine with an unusual amount of concentration, blatant minerality and serious depth.

Jouan produces some of the most delightfully pensive Burgundies that I know of. They thrive on subtlety and mysterious depth. We have many customers who are fond of comparing Jouan’s wines to the legendary wines of the now retired Jacky Truchot. The wines share a kinship in terms of their texture and quiet, whispering allure.

It's always a pleasure to be able to offer Jouan's Clos Saint-Denis. The difficulty is that Jouan only has 0.36ha in Clos St. Denis. I expect to spend this evening allocating the wine.
