"There is fine punch and lovely detail "
- 2016 Dujac Morey-St-Denis

Dujac never fails to astound me.

One of the truly amazing things about the domaine is that Dujac respects no boundaries.

Dujac makes epic Grand Cru red Burgundies, shockingly good whites and as today’s offer drives home, village-level wines that box well above their weight class. I can think of few domaines where every bottle seems to transcend expectations by such a wide margin.

Few village wines deliver a similar refinement and complexity. There are not many comparisons. There are the breathtaking examples from Mugneret-Gibourg, Fourrier, and Roumier, but that is about it.

The 2016 is a really impressive vintage for the wine. Dujac’s signature of intensity and saturating complexity with an ethereal dimension of perfume and delicacy is on bold display. The wine has so much harmony and is absolutely packed with nuance.

I have had numerous bottles with a decade or more of age that have really impressed me. The way that the Morey ages is a real testament to the amount of punch and how rigorous the structure is.

As you can guess, there is not much of the 2016 Morey-St-Denis to go around. I am sneaking this in on a Sunday in the hopes that I will not have to allocate it.
