For the past three decades, Château Angélus has enjoyed success that’s nearly unrivaled.
The Château has firmly established itself as one of Saint Émilion’s star properties, a status that it shares with Château Cheval Blanc.
The 2016 Angélus represents another high water mark for the château. This is a dynamite vintage of Angélus that's destined to age beautifully.
I should underscore that magnums of Angélus are rare. Currently, you'll only find around 24 listings in the country for magnums of any vintage of Angélus.
The 2016 Bordeaux vintage is one of our favorites of the past couple of decades. It combines the presence and appealing textures of the 2015 with purity and finesse of the 2010. It's an amazing combination: you get length, concentration, elegance, and precision.
This is a vintage where Angélus' really shined. It wouldn't be out of line at all to say that it's in the running as wine of the vintage. The 2016 is gorgeously suave, with a dancing finesse and nuanced complexity. The combination of power and poise is really compelling.
Angélus is one of the monuments of the great 2016 vintage. The magnum format ensures that it will age gracefully. I priced this as sharply as possible in hopes of getting the wine in as many hands as possible.
