Thriving On Grace and Subtlety:
2010 Castell'in Villa Chianti Riserva

“Although deeply admired and revered...Castell'in Villa still flies under the radar.” - Antonio Galloni

Castell'in Villa has cruised under the radar for some time, but insiders have long sought out their incredibly long-lived and beautifully finessed expressions of Sangiovese.

This is one of the great, traditional and honest examples of Sangiovese. For decades, Castell'in Villa has been a benchmark for the region. When it comes to aging and soulfulness, it may be without peer. Bottles from the seventies are still stunning today.

We've been working with Castell'in Villa for many vintages, but the 2010 vintage was too much of a home run not to offer it. When we tasted the 2010 Riserva, it was clear that it would be remembered as one of the great examples of this aristocratic estate.

By now it’s certain that 2010 will go down as one of the most important Tuscan vintages of the past few decades. The wines flaunt a magical combination of verve, transparency and and pure power. The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva perfectly captures this - it's deep and soulful, while possessing beautiful vivacity and lift.

The Chianti Classico Riserva is sourced from Castell'in Villa's best vineyards. It's incredibly multifaceted, with layers of black cherry fruit, florals, savory herbs, spices, minerals and smoke. In 2010, everything is delivered with vibrant elegance and a lovely, silken texture.

Castell'in Villa is one of the most historic, time-tested estates in the region. Their style of harmony and precison allows the wines to age incredibly well, while remaining ultra-finessed and agile. The 2010 is destined to evolve gracefully and profoundly.
