Didier Fornerol's Côte de Nuits - Villages offers a rare combination of rigor, deliciousness, and value.
For many vintages, the Côte de Nuits - Villages Rouge is a staff and customer favorite. The 2019 takes things to another level.
Fornerol's Burgundies feel like time capsules. Their grace and lightness harken back to old-school Burgundy.
I have a soft spot for Côte de Nuits, mostly due to Bachelet's wines. Didier Fornerol takes Côte de Nuits to a level of class that I thought was impossible.
Fornerol's 2019 is a cast-in-silk powerhouse with plenty of earthiness and minerality. It pulls off the feat of being outrageously gulpable while boasting incredible refinement and detail. The combination of complexity, concentration, and terroir-inflected harmony serves as the perfect summary of what makes the 2019 vintage so special.
Didier Fornerol was the vineyard manager and cellar master at Domaine de L’Arlot from 1982 until 1998. In 1999, he returned to his family's domaine. Today, he has really fine-tuned the winemaking at the domaine with crucial help from L'Arlot's legendary Jean-Pierre de Smet. Given how much we've loved many of the older L'Arlot wines, it's no surprise that Fornerol is so important for us.
I'll close with a warning. We received a modest allocation. Given the excitement over the 2019 vintage, we're expecting a quick sell out. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
