Les Journaries is unapologetically old-school northern Rhone, rendered with amazing clarity.
As we've seen before, when it comes to unyieldingly honest Côte-Rôtie, Levet's wines are without peer.
Levet's 2021s capture the beating heart of the domaine in a way that few recent vintages have. It's classically styled and allows for a beautiful expression of minerality, finesse, and vivid aromatics.
Today, I'm happy to offer Levet's 2021 Côte-Rôtie Les Journaries, one of our favorite vintages of the wine in some time.
Les Journaries comes from 45-year-old vines, primarily from the famed “La Landonne” vineyard. Compared to Chavaroche, Journaries is more elegant and graceful. Both wines are made following traditional methods that highlight the untamed fascination that northern Rhône wines can possess.
The 2021 Les Journaries has aromatics that really pop and an energy that deeply impresses. Everything is presented with a beautiful, seamless harmony. There's both wildness and elegance to the wine.
Levet’s wines are some of our favorites from the northern Rhône. They are true masters of old-school Côte-Rôtie. The 2021s are really compelling examples of this.
