Vollenweider: Rebirth and Renaissance

There had already been quite a bit of buzz around the new wines of Vollenweider.

Then the scores came out, and the microphone, as they say, was dropped.

Moritz Hoffmann, who worked closely with Daniel for many years and took the reins of the estate when Daniel passed away in 2022, has quietly and with a certain stoic toughness so typical of the Mosel winemakers brought the estate to a new, truly breathtaking level.

While the Prädikat wines have lost nothing of their finesse, the fact is that Moritz has brought the dry Rieslings to another, almost unprecedented, level. In some ways it is that simple.

The 2024ers have just been released, and today we present (with some haste given the rarity of the wines and the glowing reviews) the entire lineup of the four Grand Cru dry Rieslings!

As the collection has been completely restructured, we strongly recommend trying all four. These Grand Cru dry Rieslings share a similar force and purity. They are almost severe-feeling, with a striking salt and mineral cut and astounding length transitions into an ethereal finish.

These are simply at a level rarely achieved in the Mosel: think Julian Haart, Falkenstein, Weiser-Künstler, and Stein.

While these are no-brainer purchases for Riesling fanatics, if you value mineral, focus, delineation, energy, levity, and length, these wines will be a revelation.
