Wine of the Year: Bobby's Pick
2008 Dom Pérignon

Posted by Robert Schagrin

Dom Pérignon's 2008 is a very personal wine for me.

2008 was the year of my son's birth, so naturally I bought a virtual ocean of 2008 Dom Pérignon and nearly any other Champagne that I was passionate about.

Without a doubt, 2008 Dom Pérignon has turned out to be one of the best wine purchases of my life. There is something absolutely magical about this Dom Pérignon. It is easily among the best of the past fifty years.

I've returned to experience it frequently since it was released. Recently the '08 DP has seemingly entered its next stage of development, growing deeper and even more profound. This "second life" made it a natural fit for a wine of the year that is so personal to me.

Simply put, this is a bottle that flirts with perfection. Every serious collector that I speak with remains in awe of 2008 Dom Pérignon. It was brilliant on release and just keeps getting better. In its current phase, it has the laser-like focus and ballet-like grace that has always defined the wine and adds an extraordinary complexity that 15 years since the vintage has brought to it.

I'm very happy to offer this as my Wine of the Year. This is simply an epic Dom Pérignon for the ages. The fact that we can offer '08 Dom Pérignon at pricing below the current release (2013 DP,) sweetens things even further. This pricing flirts with the lowest price in the US. Stock up while this stash lasts.

Happy New Year!
